HMD wins repeat PCTC deal
2015-03-27
Korea’s Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) has won a new order for two pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) from Israel-based Ray Car Carriers. The order for the two 7,700 ceu capacity PCTCs is valued at KRW172.6 billion (USD156.1 million) with delivery scheduled during the first half of 2017. They will be built to the same design as four ships contracted at HMD by the same owner during 2013 and 2014, which are due for delivery this year and next. The first ship of this series, expected in June 2015, is contracted to go on long-term charter to Hyundai Glovis, which is likely to charter further vessels. With a post-Panamax beam of 35.4 m to improve stability, each ship will be fitted with a 200 tonne capacity angled stern ramp and a 25 tonne capacity side ramp. The capability to handle high and heavy cargoes will be facilitated by fitting four hostable decks within the total 13-deck layout. Propulsion will be provided by a single 7G60ME-C9 main engine built by Hyundai Heavy Industries. All six ships will be classed by DNV-GL.
